Tha Husson University Eagles would score a field hockey victory to open up conference play on Saturday afternoon on the road over the University of Maine-Farmington. They would make it a clean sweep over UMF on the day, as women’s soccer beat the Beavers in non-conference action as part of homecoming weekend in Bangor and men’s soccer also came up victorious in Farmington also in non-conference play.
At Prescott Field in Farmington- The Husson Field Hockey team scored three goals in the first 7:46 of the first quarter and would roll over UMF 9-0 in the conference opener for both squads. Faith Tillotson had what turned out to be the game winner at 4:14 assisted by Tessa Cappozili. Tillotson, Teagan Blackie, and Maddie Perkins scored two goals each as the Eagles improved to 2-2 and 1-0 in conference play. Husson didn’t allow a shot on goal (23-0), and held the Beavers to no penalty corner opportunities as well (20-0). Kimmie Goddard and Maria Levesque both split time in net in the win. UMaine-Farmington fell to 0-6, 0-1. Husson will host Plymouth State in a non-conference tilt on Sunday as part of homecoming at 1 p.m.
At Boucher Field in Bangor- Addi Laslie recorded a hat trick to lead Husson women’s soccer to a 6-0 homecoming win over UMF in non-conference action. Laslie scored both goals of the first half, and then tallied 29 seconds into the second half to cap off her three-goal game. Katelyn Daggett, Lindsey Russell, and Allie Camerson also scored for the Eagles who improved to 4-3. Madison Weigler, Aubrey Fadden, and Hannah Kenney all played in net to combine for the shutout with a total of seven saves. Paige Gonya made 11 saves for UMaine-Farmington, who falls to 2-5. Husson opens conference play on Wednesday night at 7 when they visit Maine Maritime Academy.
At Leib Field in Farmington- Ben Shumway scored with just four seconds left in regulation to lead Husson men’s soccer to a 1-0 non-conference win over UMaine-Farmington. Kenny Penney assisted on the game winner as the Eagles improved to 4-2-3 on the season. The Beavers only had one shot on goal, as they were outshot 7-2. UMF falls to 3-4-1. Alex Rechsteiner had the one save for the shutout in net. They open up conference play on Wednesday as well at 7:30 p.m. in Castine against MMA.
