The University of Maine women’s ice hockey team opened their new season on Friday and Saturday, dropping both non-conference matchups to #8 Quinnipiac University at M&T Bank Arena in Hamden, Connecticut.
Maine was blanked 3-0 on Friday night, before falling 5-1 on Saturday afternoon. Lily Fetch had the only goal on the weekend for the Black Bears, scoring the lone marker of the first period on Saturday that had given the guests their only lead. Anna Larose made 28 saves in net on Friday in the loss, while Julia Bachetti made 33 stops in Saturdays defeat. Ashley Kokavec and Ana Stevenson had one assist a piece on the Fetch goal. Cooper Kendall led the Bobcats with two goals and an assist in the series. Maine plays two games at Stonehill College in Massachusetts this Friday and Saturday at 5 p.m. and 1 p.m. respectively, before opening their home schedule in Hockey East play against UNH on Friday, October 13 at 2’oclock.
