Madisyn Hartley scored her first goal of the season with just 32 seconds left in the fourth quarter Friday afternoon, leading the University of Maine to a come from behind 3-2 victory over Bryant in America East Field Hockey action at the Maine Field Hockey Complex in Orono.
Lotte Guitink scored both goals of the first half, as the visitors from Bryant would take a 2-0 lead. Her first marker came at 4:30 of the first quarter assisted by Emma Rothkopf, while the second tally was helped by Brittany Gouws and Taryn Rauff with just over a minute left before the break. Maine (6-6, 3-2 America East) rallied with two goals in the third quarter, starting with the 11th of the season for Mallory Mackesy just 58 seconds in. Tereza Holubcova made it 2-2 with her third of the year that was assisted by Poppy Lambert and Bhreagh Kennedy 7:52 into the period. It looked like the game was destined for overtime late, before Hartley was in the right place at the right time to pick up the game winner. The play was started by Kennedy, who got the ball into the middle of the circle to Brynn Dzengelewski. Dzengelewski turned and fired a hard pass to Hartley, who was positioned just to the right of Bulldogs goaltender Dieneke Hess and beat the netminder with a quick shot to give the Black Bears the comeback victory.
Kennedy had two assists and Holubcova had one goal and one assist in the win for Maine. Mallory Drayer made three saves in net. Hes made 10 saves in the loss for Bryant, who drops to 5-6 and 0-3 in conference play. The Black Bears are back in non-conference action on Sunday when they hit the road to Connecticut to take on Quinnipiac at 12 p.m.
