The Husson University men’s and women’s soccer teams both defeated Thomas College in North Atlantic Conference action at Smith Field in Waterville on Saturday to finish the regular season.
In the women’s contest- Husson exploded for five second half goals and blanked Thomas College 6-0. Charlotte Messer scored what proved to be the game winner with her eighth goal of the season in the 12th minute of the first half. Addi Laslie, Messer, Kate Harriman (2), and Natalie Aviolla all scored in the second half for the Eagles, who finish in second place in the East Division of the North Atlantic Conference with an overall record of 12-5-1 (7-1 in conference play, 5-1 in the East Division). Caley Nault, Megan Buddemeyer, Paige Dunn, and Rylee Speed all had an assist each in the victory Saturday, and Madison Weigler didn’t face any shots on goal in net to pick up the shutout. Thomas ends their regular season at 5-11, 3-5 in the conference.
In the men’s game- Domingo Infante scored a game winning goal in the 33rd minute of the first half, as Husson defeated Thomas 3-1. All the goals were scored in the first half. Josh Nadeau scored the opening marker in the 16th minute for the Eagles, before the Terriers tied it when Joshua Joseph tallied in the 27th minute. Alejandro Mora added another goal for Husson in the 40th minute, as they finish the regular season on a four game win streak with a record of 11-4-3 overall and 7-1 in the NAC. They capture the regular season East Division Conference Title with a 6-0 mark. Alex Rechsteiner and Samuel Bermudez both played in goal and combined for seven saves. Thomas ends the regular season at 7-7-5, 4-4-1 in conference play.
The North Atlantic Conference men’s and women’s soccer Tournament seedings, locations, and pairings will be announced officially on Sunday. The East and West Division playoffs are set to begin next Saturday.
