Florian Gasser scored a game winning goal with just over five minutes left in the second half on Sunday afternoon, leading the Husson Eagles to a 2-1 comeback victory over the University of Maine-Farmington in the North Atlantic Conference Tournament men’s soccer semifinals (East Division Final) at Boucher Field in Bangor. Husson advances to the NAC Championship game to be played in Bangor next Saturday.
Cade McHugh scored the lone goal of the first half, as UMaine-Farmington took the lead. McHugh fired a hard shot from just outside the 18 past the outstretched hands of Husson goalie Alex Rechsteiner in the 8th minute. Alejandro Mora tied it for the Eagles with 17:38 to play in regulation off an assist by Hugo Llopiz. Gasser got free in the box for the game winner after a Beavers defender slipped at the 84:58 mark, beating Jackson Leach with a quick shot into the right corner of the net.
Rechsteiner made one save in the win, as Husson improves to 13-4-3 and will take a six game winning streak into the NAC Championship game next week. Leach had two stops for UMF, who ends their season with a final record of 9-8-2. The Eagles will face SUNY Poly (12-5-1, West Division winner) for the conference title at Boucher Field in Bangor on Saturday at 1 p.m.
