After a slow first quarter, the Woodland girls basketball team outscored Narraguagus in each of the final three quarters to grab a 49-39 win in Harrington in a mutual season opener on Friday night.
Karleigh Smith filled up the stat sheet with 18 points, eight rebounds, three assists, three steals, and went 6-6 from the free throw line to lead the Lady Dragons. Freshman Mishun Cornelius had a double-double in her first varsity game as she had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Brooke Smith recorded 11 points, six assists, and four steals. Karleigh and Brooke Smith combined to shoot 8-8 from the free throw line. Woodland (1-0) will play their home opener on Monday night against Machias.
Paidyn Cashman led the Lady Knights with 11 points, while Eden Fraser added 10. Narraguagus (0-1) is scheduled to host Jonesport-Beals on Monday night.
