At Lee Saturday afternoon, the Penobscot Valley boys basketball team erased a five point third quarter deficit to beat Lee Academy 52-38.
Trailing 35-30 with ninety seconds left in the period, PVHS saw three straight 3-pointers drop from Colin Harding, Ryan Dawson, and Noah Austin that gave the Howlers a lead that they wouldn’t relinquish.
Finn Knowles helped get Lee off to a quick start, scoring four points and assisting on another basket before Penobscot Valley was even on the board. The Pandas held leads of 10-9 and 26-21 after the first and second quarters respectively, led by nine points from Knowles and receiving eight and seven points from Andrew Glidden and Austen Jipson. Although the Howlers had six players score in the half, they still trailed by five.
After taking the lead in the third, the PVHS defense held Lee Academy to one point in the fourth to pull away for the win.
Penobscot Valley had scoring contributions from seven players, including a game-high 14 points from Harding, nine each from Kaden Loring and Colin Dunn, seven from Caleb Moon, six from Austin, five from Dawson, and two from Chase Osgood. The 1-0 Howlers host Schenck on Tuesday.
Lee was led by Knowles, who also led his team with a game-high 14 points. Other scorers included Jipson (11), Glidden (8), Dillon Toxier (3) and Caden Pullen (2). The Pandas, who were playing without key players Jaskson Sabattus and Cohen Noble due to injuries, travel to Millinocket to face Stearns on Monday.
