The Bangor Rams scored four second period goals, and would move to 2-0 in the early season with a 6-2 win over the Brewer Witches in a boys hockey game played at Sawyer Arena in Bangor on Wednesday night.
The teams swapped a goal in the first period. Bangor would score early as Chase Caron tallied on a rebound at 1:23. Brewer would tie it at 4:43 on the powerplay. Hunter Merrithew had several opportunities in front of Rams goalie Cole Fernald who kept it out, but the rebound popped over to Grady Vanidestine who fired it in. The hosts would score three times in a span of 2:30 of the second, with Marc-Andre Perron getting the first one off a pass from Miles Randall on the powerplay at 2:52. Ty Walker would bury the game winner 48 seconds later, sliding through the crease to bang home a rebound. Caron on the powerplay got his second of the night at 5:22 to make it 4-1. The Witches, who were playing their season opener, got their final goal from Baylon Cram off an assist from Cam Dostie at 11:26. Bangor got another one late in the period at 14:47 from Preston Henry, and Randall finished the scoring at 7:22 of the third shorthanded unassisted.
Ethan Hanscom played in net for Brewer in the loss, while the freshman Fernald picked up the win for Bangor in the cage. The Rams return to action on Saturday afternoon when they play at Old Town/Orono, and the Witches will play host to Messalonskee in their home opener next Wednesday.
