In an early season battle of two top contenders in Class C, PVHS traveled to Lincoln to earn the 64-55 girls basketball win over Mattanawcook Academy on Wednesday night.
The Lynx came out playing well with Lily Wotton having all six of her points in the 1st quarter as they took a 13-11 lead into the 2nd.
PVHS (2-0) continued their relentless pressure to have their biggest quarter of the night with 19 points in the second quarter sparked by nine points from freshman Brooklynn Raymond. PVHS held the 30-22 lead at halftime and never looked back. They increased their lead to 15 points early in the fourth quarter, as Lila Cummings had 12 second half points to be able to control any fight that MA had left.
PVHS sophomore point guard Rylee Moulton lead all scorers with 23 points and six steals, while the freshman Raymond finished with 17 points and eight rebounds. Senior duo Kaitlin Thorton & Lauren House led the MA Lady Lynx (2-1) with 12 & 11 points respectively. PVHS and Mattanawcook both return to action on Friday, as the Howlers host Calais and the Lynx play at Orono.
