Amelia Godin had a game-high 22 points including six 3-pointers on Tuesday night, in leading the Caribou Vikings to a 54-47 Class B girls basketball win over the Presque Isle Wildcats in a contest played in Presque Isle.
The game between the current #3 and #4 teams in Class B North saw seven lead changes and four ties on the evening. Godin had five of her teams 10 points in the first quarter, including the last hoop of the period as the visiting Vikings led 10-9. That was the start of an 8-0 run, as they also scored the first six points of the second on three-pointers by Godin and Madelyn Deprey for a 16-9 advantage. Presque Isle would go on a 6-0 spurt of their own in the quarter to get within 20-19, but it was Caribou holding the lead at the break 22-20.
Caribou would lead by as many as six in the third quarter, before Presque Isle rallied and took a pair of one point leads (first lead since the first) thanks to seven points from Jan Curtis and five from Addison Clairmont. Another Godin three-pointer put the Vikings ahead for good 38-36, holding that same slim two point lead 41-39 heading into the fourth. Godin had eight of her teams 13 points in the final period, including two three-pointers and Deprey hit 5-6 from the line over the last 1:30 to help secure the win.
Along with the 22 from Godin, Deprey finished with 18 points and seven rebounds for Caribou who improves to 6-3. Liv Adams chipped in seven points and eight rebounds, Madelyn Morrow had four points, and Ainsley Caron had three. The Vikings won the rebounding battle 25-20 and shot 8-14 from the free throw line.
