The Sumner Tigers boys and girls basketball teams completed a doubleheader sweep over visiting Deer Isle-Stonington on Wednesday night in East Sullivan.
In the girls game- Jenna Colby had a game-high 13 points, and Sumner outscored Deer Isle-Stonington 37-16 in the second half to pull away for a 56-24 win. Alana Welch added nine points for the Tigers (4-8), while Brooklyn Newenham and Bristol Parritt both had eight points. Madelyn Eaton had 12 points to lead Deer Isle-Stonington, as the Mariners fall to 2-9. Both teams are back in action Friday as Sumner hosts Searsport, while Deer Isle-Stonington will play at home against Jonesport-Beals.
In the boys game- Bryson Parritt had a game-high 18 points, as Sumner raced out to a 31-6 halftime lead and rolled over Deer Isle-Stonington 66-20. Ian Gatcomb added 11 points for the Tigers, while Angel Valencia had nine points and Logan Crowley also contributed with eight. The Tigers improve to 5-7. Brayden Martin had 11 points in the loss for Deer Isle-Stonington, as the Mariners fell to 1-12. Sumner is back in action today (Thursday 1/18) at George Stevens Academy, while Deer Isle-Stonington is at home Friday against Jonesport-Beals.
