GUILFORD— The Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) Pirates jumped out to a 14-2 lead and held on for a 51-40 win over Penquis on Saturday afternoon.
Brady Gaw and Scott Chadbourne combined to score 38 points, including 10 in the first quarter. The duo continued to put the ball through the basket in the second quarter, combining for 14 points in the quarter (24 in the half) as the Pirates held a 29-14 advantage heading into halftime.
Kooper Badger kept the Patriots within striking distance, scoring 12 points in the third quarter as they cut the deficit to 41-30. Chase Lander and Chadbourne each hit a three pointer in the fourth quarter as the Pirates held on for the 11 point win.
Badger scored a game high 22 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Patriots. Brennan Grant added six points and six rebounds. Penquis (5-8) will play at Lee Acadmey on Tuesday.
Chadbourne scored a team high 20 points (4 three pointers) and had eight rebounds for the Pirates. Gaw had 18 points (4 three pointers), four assists and three rebounds. Lander added seven points (2 three pointers), Noah Kain chipped in with three points, 12 rebounds, and three assists, PCHS (6-6) will host PVHS on Tuesday.
