Sophomore Karleigh Smith had a game-high 25 points on Wednesday night, in helping the Woodland Dragons get past the Jonesport-Beals Royalettes 52-49 in a girls basketball game played at Woodland High School in Baileyville.
It was a close contest throughout, as Jonesport-Beals got a team-high 23 points from Mia Mills and the game was tied 35-35 after three quarters. Karleigh Smith made 11-16 at the free throw line on the night to help Woodland outscore the Royalettes 17-14 in the fourth to pull out the three point victory.
Smith made two 3-pointers as part of her game-high in points in the win for Woodland. Brooke Smith added 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, and seven steals. Mischun Cornelius contributed nine points, 12 rebounds, and three assists as the Lady Dragons improved their record to 9-6 in Class C North. Mills chipped in eight rebounds to go along with her 23 points, and was a perfect 9-9 at the foul line in the loss for Jonesport-Beals. Brenna Alley had 12 points, as the Royalettes fall to 10-5 in Class D North. Both teams return to action on Friday as Woodland plays at PVHS, and Jonesport-Beals is at Searsport.
