At Howland on Friday night, the Penobscot Valley (PVHS) girls basketball team celebrated senior night by defeating Woodland 78-31.
Both teams played great defense early on, then the home team got rolling offensively on strong takes from senior Ashlyn St. Cyr who had seven points in the first quarter and finished with 12 points for the game.
Karleigh Smith had nine of the 11 points in the first half for Woodland, but PVHS was able to build a 35-11 lead at the half.
The Howlers came out in the third quarter with some fire with seven points in the period from Mia Neal who finished with 11. Rylee Moulton continued her impressive season for PVHS netting a game high 24 points including six 3-point shots, helping her team improve to 15-2.
Woodland was lead by 18 points from Karleigh Smith, and eight from Kaylin Hamilton. The Lady Dragons (9-7) are back in action as they host the Shead Tigers on Monday. PVHS will host Mattanawcook on Wednesday in a clash of two of the top contenders in Class C.
