The Penobscot Pioneers had eight different players score on a goal on Wednesday night, and would roll to a 12-3 Class A Northern Maine girls ice hockey quarterfinal playoff win over Edward Little co-op at the Penobscot Ice Arena in Brewer.
The Pioneers (15-4) scored four times in span of 8:13 in the first period, then put it away by scoring six goals in the third to advance to a Saturday semifinal in Lewiston. Paige Oakes had a trick (three goals, one assist), Anna Molloy had two goals and two assists, and Delaney Carr also notched a pair of goals. Jordin Williams led all point scorers with one goal and six assists. Also chipping in for Penobscot was Izzy Brideau, Meghan Delahanty, Hannah Marsh, and Sophie Hepler who all had one goal and one assist. Ella Davis and Olivia Veves contributed one assist a piece. Abby Derosier got the win in net, while both Mariah Coon and Peyton Sullivan also played in the third period. Edward Little/Leavitt/Poland finishes their season with a record of 7-12.
Penobscot, who is made up of players from Brewer, Bangor, Hampden, Hermon, John Bapst, Old Town, and Orono, will play in that semifinal round Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Lewiston Colisee. They’ll be will be facing the winner of another quarterfinal scheduled for Thursday between Brunswick and Lewiston/Oak Hill. The Pios are in their second season, and fell last year in their inaugural campaign in the Northern Maine Final to Yarmouth/Freeport.
