GUILFORD- Scott Chadbourne had 14 points in the second half, including going 8-8 from the free throw line to lead the Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) Pirates to a 63-49 win over Mattanawcook in a Class C prelim game on Wednesday night.
Brady Gaw scored all eight of his teams points in the first quarter as the Pirates jumped out to an 8-5 lead.
Chadbourne drilled a three to give PCHS a six point advantage early in the second quarter. The Lynx then went on a 9-0 run to take a 14-11 lead. Chadbourne had 14 points in the second, including a three-pointer late in the half to give the Pirates a 25-23 lead at intermission.
PCHS came out hot in the third quarter as they made 5 three-pointers in the period, including two by Chadbourne. The Pirates put the game away from the free throw line as Chadbourne, Gaw, and Ben Higgins each made six free throws in the final eight minutes.
James Trott scored a team-high 16 points to lead the Lynx. Andrew Oliver added 14 points and five rebounds. Mattanawcook finished the season with a 13-6 record.
Chadbourne scored a game-high 28 points. He also had 11 rebounds, six assists, and went 10-10 from the free throw line. Gaw had 18 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while Higgins had eight points, five rebounds, and two assists. Chase Lander put in two 3-pointers. Noah Kain added three points, four rebounds, and three assists. The Pirates had 14 assists on 17 field goals. PCHS (12-7) will play top seed Calais in a quarterfinal game at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, February 20th.
