Isabel Peters scored a game winning goal early in the second period on Tuesday night, leading Yarmouth/Freeport to their second consecutive girls hockey state title appearance with a 3-1 win over the Penobscot Pioneers in the Class A North Regional Final at Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn.
Emma White scored off a pass from Sophie Smith at 8:23 of the first period to make it 1-0 Clippers, before Peters scored the eventual game winner 1:54 into the second. Jordin Williams scored the lone goal for the Pioneers at 11:48 of the third, before Yarmouth/Freeport put it away with an empty net goal from Adelaide Strout with just 36 seconds remaining. It is the second consecutive North Regional Final win over the Pioneers for the Clippers, and by the exact same score as last seasons.
Freshman Lexi Wiles made 22 saves for Yarmouth/Freeport (17-4). The Clippers will face defending state champion Cheverus/Windham or Gorham co-op for the state title on Saturday in Auburn. Abby Derosier made 25 saves in the loss for Penobscot, who ends another great run in just their second year of varsity action with a 16-5 record.
