BANGOR- Saige Evans had a double double with 19 points, and Taylor Loring also put in 19 points on Friday night as the Old Town Coyotes pulled away for a 66-27 Maine Principals’ Association Class B girls quarterfinal win over the MCI Huskies at the Cross Insurance Center.
The #10 seed MCI would never lead, but four first quarter points from Aleah Harris and five from Kayleigh Dunton had the Huskies within 13-11 after the opening eight minutes. Old Town would pull away from there. The Coyotes scored the first 12 points of the second, and Evans had 11 of her 19 in the period as they extended their advantage to 34-13 at halftime by outscoring the Huskies 21-2. Old Town had another big third quarter (18-6) putting six players on the scoresheet, rolling into a Wednesday semifinal against MDI.
Evans had 15 rebounds that was also part of her 19 point night, while Loring contributed four rebounds and four assists to add to her 19 points. #2 Old Town (17-2) outrebounded MCI 32-15, and the Coyotes shot 12-18 at the free throw line. Also scoring in the victory was Karina Dumond with nine points, Alexis Degrasse and Danica Brown with six points a piece, Makayla Emerson with four points and five steals, Taylor Madden with two points, and Elizabeth Magoon with one at the foul line for one point. Dunton led MCI with 15 points, while Skyla Dean, Harris, and Adrianna Brooks chipped in four points a piece. The Huskies went 1-2 at the line and end their season with a record of 10-10.
