BANGOR- Jesse Booker had a double double, as he and Jalen Reed combined for 37 points on Saturday evening in leading Bangor Christian to a 66-36 Maine Principals’ Association Class D boys quarterfinal win over Stearns at the Cross Insurance Center.
Stearns had one very early lead 2-1, before Bangor Christian turned up the pressure. The Patriots ended the first quarter on a run of 16-5 to take a lead they wouldn’t relinquish at 17-7. Booker (10), Jalen Reed (5), Gabe Gahagan (4), and Elliot Straubel (3) put in all the points in the second period and BC outscored the Minutemen 22-2 to begin pulling away with a 30 point halftime advantage. They would lead by as many as 38, sending them into a Wednesday night semifinal.
Booker finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Jalen Reed had 17 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Straubel and Gahagan chipped in eight points a piece for #2 Bangor Christian (16-3). They also won the rebounding battle 35-15 and shot 6-16 from the foul line. Caleb Shearer had 12 points to lead #7 Stearns. Caden Raymond contributed nine points, and Brayden Campbell had five. The Minutemen shot 8-12 at the line and finish their season with a record of 8-12. The Patriots will take on #3 Southern Aroostook on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the Class D semifinals.
