BANGOR- Big time players come up big in the biggest moments. Lilly Roy did just that. With 7:19 left in the fourth quarter, Roy drilled a three-pointer to give Wisdom a lead they wouldn’t give back. That started a 10-0 run for Wisdom as they went on to defeat Bangor Christian 38-28 in a MPA Class D girls basketball quarterfinal game on Saturday night at the Cross Insurance Center.
Wisdom jumped out to a 14-6 lead behind Roy’s eight first quarter points. Bangor Christian outscored the Lady Pioneers 17-11 in the middle two quarters, as they trailed 25-23 heading into the final eight minutes.
Lyndsie Durost made a three-pointer to start the fourth quarter to give the Lady Patriots a 26-25 advantage. After a timeout, Roy took over including the three-pointer to give her team the lead. That would start that 10-0 run, with Roy scoring eight of those 10 points.
Roy finished with 18 points, nine steals, six rebounds, and two assists. Ava Lerman had nine points and five rebounds. Wisdom (14-5) will face Katahdin or Central Aroostook in a semifinal game.
Durost had 10 points to lead the Lady Patriots. Katherine Benjamin added eight points. Bangor Christian finished the season 9-10.
