BANGOR- Big time players come up big in the biggest moments. Will Francis did that on Saturday morning in helping Orono defeat Caribou 55-47 in a Maine Principals’ Association Class B boys quarterfinal at the Cross Insurance Center.
Orono held a 14-10 lead after the first quarter. They expanded the lead to 26-17 at the half behind Ben Francis putting in seven points.
Tristan Robbins had six points in the third quarter as Caribou got within 38-35 entering the final period. With Orono up by one with 35 seconds left, Will Francis made two free throws. On the other end, he blocked a Robbins shot and then Ben Francis converted a three-point play to secure the win.
Robbins led the way with for Caribou with 18 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Owen Corrigan added 10 points. The Vikings finish their season with a record of 15-5.
Ben Francis had 16 points to lead the way for the Red Riots. Pierce Walston added 12 points and seven assists. Will Francis had 11 points, four rebounds, and three steals. Orono (16-3) will play Ellsworth in the semifinals on Wednesday.
