BANGOR- Hunter Hartsgrove had 36 points on Saturday night, sending #7 Katahdin past #2 Central Aroostook 69-37 in a Maine Principals’ Association Class D girls quarterfinal played at the Cross Insurance Center.
Hartsgrove was on fire in the first half. Katahdin led just 12-10 after one quarter, but 15 points from the senior guard in the second allowed the Cougars to outscore Central Aroostook 28-4 to build a 40-14 halftime lead and would cruise the rest of the way.
Hartsgrove hit two three-pointers and also hit 11-12 at the free throw line to help her Katahdin team advance to the semifinals. Emily McNally added 10 points, and Mia McNally contributed eight points. The Cougars are now 13-7. Abigail Haines led Central Aroostook with 16 points. Rylee Piece had nine points, while Harleigh Allen chipped in seven points. The Panthers end their season with a record of 12-7. Katahdin will square off with #3 Wisdom in the semifinal round on Thursday morning at 10 a.m.
