BANGOR- The Mt. View Mustangs outscored the Fort Kent Warriors 40-14 over the course of the second and third quarter combined on Monday evening, rolling to a 78-44 Maine Principals’ Association Class C boys quarterfinal win at the Cross Insurance Center.
A steal and layup by Noah Hurd with 2:39 left in the first quarter gave Mt. View their first lead and one they wouldn’t relinquish 14-13. That would ignite a 6-0 run. Hurd hit a three-pointer just before the buzzer in the second, as the Mustangs took a 37-24 lead into the break. They had six players score in the third period, and outscored Fort Kent 25-8 to put it away leading by as many as 37 in the second half.
Hurd celebrated his 18th birthday with a game-high 25 points (four 3-pointers) for #7 Mt. View in the win. He also added four assists and three rebounds. Wyatt Evensen contributed 17 points, nine rebounds, five steals, and three assists. Ben Osborne recorded nine points, while Miles Carter and Stuart Knowlton chipped in eight points a piece. Carter also had eight rebounds. The Mustangs outrebounded Fort Kent 31-14. Ethan Daigle led the #2 Warriors with 17 points, Caleb Lavertu had 10, and Tobias Naranja had nine points as they finish their season at 12-7. Mt. View (13-6) will take on Fort Fairfield in the semifinals on Thursday at 2 p.m.
