The Husson University softball team, enjoying one of their better seasons in program history, continued to roll on Tuesday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader sweep over the University of Maine-Farmington including a no-hitter in Game 1 at Prescott Field in Farmington.
Game 1- Danielle Masterson pitched a no-hitter, and the Eagles backed her by scoring eight times in the fourth inning to break it open to win by mercy in five innings 11-0. Katie Raymond had a hit and three RBI, that included a two-run triple. Bulla McCabe also drove in a pair. Masterson (6-1) only walked one and struckout seven. Mack Bergen (5-2) took the loss for UMaine-Farmington. Masterson had combined with Jazmin Johnson for a five inning no-hitter in a Husson win just four days ago over Lesley University in Bangor.
Game 2- Husson used another big inning to complete the sweep with a 6-3 victory. The Eagles scored five runs in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead. Tori Exel had a big hit in the five run frame with a two-run single, and Julia Gregiore added an RBI double. Kenzie Dore also drove in a run. Freshman Ana Lang (11-2) also pitched a great game in the circle allowing three runs (none earned) on three hits with one walk and 12 strikeouts in the complete 7.0 inning effort. Abby Wrinn had an RBI infield single, and Jojo Daigneault a two-run single in the fifth inning for UMaine-Farmington for the unearned runs after two Husson errors. Melissa Mayo (2-2) also went the distance and suffered the pitching loss giving up six runs (one earned) on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts. The Beavers record drops to 11-9 and 4-2 in the North Atlantic Conference.
Husson has now won 17 games in a row, improving to 22-4 and 8-0 in conference play. The last Eagles loss was during the season opening spring trip in Florida to Muskingum University on March 7, their ninth contest of the year. They have 10 games remaining, four of those in NAC action beginning this Saturday in Waterville with a doubleheader against Thomas College. The non-conference games will be doubleheaders with Bowdoin, Bates, and the University of New England. Husson closes out the regular season at home with two games on Sunday, May 5 against the University of Maine-Presque Isle.
