The Husson Eagles baseball team continued their solid play down the stretch of the regular season, sweeping past the University of Maine-Presque Isle at James Dyer Field in Presque Isle Friday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader.
Game 1- Husson scored 10 runs during their first four at bats, taking a 10-0 lead and coasting to a 12-2 win. The Eagles got all they would need in the first two innings. Jackson Curtis hit a solo homerun to centerfield in the first, while in the second Tyler Michaud provided an RBI sacrifice fly and Hunter Curtis an RBI single. They broke it open in the fourth inning scoring six times on RBI singles by Jackson Curtis and Justin Salvatore, a two-run single by Kevin Connolly, and a two-run double by Michaud. Jackson Curtis and Connolly both had three hits and two RBI, and Michaud drove in three. Connor Abood (4-2) got the win on the mound allowing no runs on just two hits with no walks and three strikeouts in 4.0 innings. Jonah Baude (1-6) suffered the defeat on the hill for UMPI giving up 10 runs (six earned) on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts over 3.1 innings. Ricky Goupille had two hits and an RBI to lead the Owls offense.
Game 2- Husson completed the sweep by breaking open a fairly competitive game by scoring four times in both the seventh and ninth inning for a 12-1 victory. Jackson Curtis had another solid performance at the plate with three hits and two RBI, including his second solo homerun of the day. Matt Holmes had three hits (one RBI), Ryne Rametta had two hits (two RBI), and Tanner Evans also had two hits (three RBI). Matt Wallingford (4-2) was solid and picked up the pitching win giving up no runs on just one hit with one walk and nine strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Anthony Searels provided the only run for UMPI with a solo homerun in the seventh. Dakota Morrow (1-3) was tagged in the pitching defeat allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits with five walks and three strikeouts in 6.1 innings. The Owls record falls to 3-23 and 2-14 in conference play.
Husson improves to 18-10 and 14-2 in the North Atlantic Conference. The Eagles are 10-1 in their last 11 games. Husson and UMPI meet once again on Sunday to finish the series with a doubleheader in Presque Isle beginning at 1 p.m.
