DOVER-FOXCROFT– Jack Day ended a marathon, intense game with a walk-off hit in the bottom of the 18th inning that scored Aiden Harvey and gave the Foxcroft Ponies a dramatic 4-3 win over Washington Academy on Saturday afternon at Foxcroft Academy.

All runs during the first seven innings came in the first two innings of play. The Raiders took the lead with two runs in the top of the first. Carson Prout singled scored Trevor Shimabukuro, and Jaydon Mahar walked with the bases loaded to account for the two runs. Foxcroft responded with one run in the first inning and another in the second. The Ponies took advantage of a Raiders error to score their first inning run. Jack Caruso singled home Aiden Harvey to even the score at two.

The game remained even through regulation as Calvin Landry went 7.2 innings for the Ponies, allowing only one unearned run in the eighth inning. Shimabukuro went 10.1 innings on the mound for the Raiders, allowing only one run in the eighth inning. Shimabukuro hit a sacrifice fly to account for the Washington Academy run in the eighth. A Thomas Day sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 8th inning for Foxcroft kept the game going. While Landry and Shimabukuro took care of the majority of the time on the mound in the early extra innings, Caden Schwinn (Washington Academy) and Jack Day (Foxcroft) took care of the bulk innings later in the contest. Jack Day fired 8.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing five hits and three walks, while striking out seven. Jadon RIchard got the final out in the top of the 18th inning to earn the pitching win.

Harvey started the bottom of the 18th inning with a walk, and then Jack Caruso bunted Harvey to second base. Day followed with his dramatics that gave the Ponies the walk-off win in a contest that will be remembered by players and coaches for years to come. Richard and Jack Day had three hits each, while Hayden Strout and Thomas Day walked three times each. Foxcroft (6-0) will play at Mattanawcook on Monday. James Welch reached base four times from the leadoff spot for the Raiders, and Mike Taylor had three hits and reached base four times. Washington Academy (6-1) will host George Stevens on Wednesday.
