Three cities from Maine have added teams to the Greater Northeast Collegiate Baseball League that begins their season on June 1.
Bangor (Babes), Augusta (Surgin’ Sturgeon), and Old Orchard Beach (Bugs) are the three new cities represented in the wooden bat league that consists of 24 regular season games and then playoffs. Bangor will play home contests at the Winkin Complex at Husson University, Augusta plays at Morton Field, and OOB will host games at the Old Ballpark. The league is under the ownership of Wasabi Ventures Sports Management. Co-Founder and Operating Partner Jeff Musgove said, “This news could not come at a more exciting time. The Bangor Babes, Augusta Surgin’ Sturgeon, and Old Orchard Beach Bugs were a great match with our model. We are excited to see the growth of our three teams, and the league itself. Additionally, we are excited to bring the best possible baseball product to our players, and emerging fans in the three team locations”.
Bangor, Augusta, and OOB join existing teams the Gorham Lightning and Sebago Slammin’ Salmon in the now five team all-Maine league. Bangor opens the season at Old Orchard Beach on Sunday, June 2 with a doubleheader at the Old Ballpark beginning at 2 p.m. The Babes home opener is June 12 vs Gorham.
Tickets at Husson for Bangor home games are $5 each, or season passes are available for $50. For information on how to purchase individual/season passes visit the Bangor Babes page on Facebook.
