Connor Goodman (UMaine baseball) and Anne Simon (UMaine women’s basketball) are now finalists for America East Man and Woman of the Year as announced by the conference on Wednesday.
The three men and three women represent five different schools and four different sports. The America East began awarding the Woman of the Year Award in 2006, and the Man of the Year in 2014.
Here are some of the highlights for Goodman (infielder/designated hitter) from Miami, Florida:
-2023 First-Team All-Conference selection and three-time All-Academic honoree, and helped Maine win 2023 #AEBASE Championship.
-Appeared in 177 games with 173 starts, posting a career .285 average with 181 hits, 91 runs and 101 RBI.
-Graduated with a 3.89 GPA as a Business Administration major and had a 3.92 GPA while pursuing an MBA.
-Launched Goody’s Gloves during the 2023-24 academic year, raising money to help purchase baseball gloves for children in local communities. Over 100 gloves were donated in the program’s first year.
Here are the highlights for Simon (guard) from Sandweiler, Luxembourg:
-Two-Time America East Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year and led Maine to 2024 America East Championship.
-Appeared in 130 games over five seasons with 1,982 career points, 721 rebounds and 207 assists.
-Graduated with a 3.78 GPA and a degree in Psychology.
-Regular participant in elementary school visits as a mentor and reading partner, as well as a member of SAAC at Maine.
Goodman joins Yannick Bright (UNH swimming) and Henry Shemet (Binghamton swimming) as the other two Man of the Year Finalists. Aria Myers (NJIT basketball) and Morgan Petty (Albany softball) are the two finalists to join Simon as the Female of the Year candidates. The award will be given out during the end of the year banquet for the conference on June 5.
