June 13, 2024

Local products Tanner Evans and Isaac Hainer both drove in two runs on Wednesday night, as the Bangor Babes defeated the Gorham Lightning 8-3 in their home opener of the Greater Northeast Collegiate Baseball League (GNCBL) at the Winkin Complex on the campus of Husson University.

Hainer (Mattanawcook Academy and Clark University) had three hits, and Evans (Old Town High School and Husson University) added two. Evans, Matt Seymour (Old Town High and Thomas College), and Samuel Economy (Hampden Academy and Clarion University) each had a triple with Seymour also scoring two runs. The Babes are now 5-0 on the season. They had swept road doubleheaders over Old Orchard Beach and Augusta in previous matchups. Hunter Foard had two hits for Gorham. A couple more locally grown players, Grady Vanidestine and TJ Llerena, also play for the Lightning and had a hit each. Vanidestine just graduated from Brewer High School and is going to play for Endicott College next season, while Llerena is out of Hampden Academy and will be continuing his baseball career at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham. Vanidestine suffered the loss on the mound. Wyatt Stevens (Husson) picked up the win for Bangor on the hill. The Babes are back in action at home again on Friday when they play the Augusta Surgin’ Sturgeon at 6 p.m.
