It’s been a week for Newport, Maine native Cooper Flagg. The Duke University commit who is the #1 ranked player coming out of high school, made a splash during a Team USA scrimmage in Las Vegas on Monday. Move ahead to Thursday night, and Flagg was on the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and took home the Gatorade Best Male Player of the Year Award. Flagg accepted the honor next to track star Sadie Engelhardt, who won Best Female Player of the Year.
The award is one of the most prestigious ones given to high school athletes. Flagg this past season led Montverde Academy (Prep) to a national title and a 33-0 record. He is the early favorite to go #1 in the 2025 NBA Draft.
