Bangor steals seven bases, takes advantage of 10 walks in mercy rule GNCBL win over Augusta

BANGOR- The Bangor Babes stole seven bases, and took advantage of 10 walks on Friday evening in a 13-3 seven inning (mercy rule) Greater Northeast Collegiate Baseball League win over the Augusta Surgin’ Sturgeon at the Winkin Complex on the campus of Husson University.

After Augusta opened the scoring in the top of the first inning on a RBI single by Brady Vincent, Bangor responded with four runs in the bottom half to take a lead they wouldn’t give back. The Babes got a RBI single from Tanner Evans, while Liam O’Neal scored on an error, and Evans scored on a wild pitch. Isaac Hainer provided the final run of the frame with a RBI groundout. The Babes put it away with three more in the fifth inning helped by a RBI infield single by Hainer, and a wild pitch scoring Evans. The game ended in the seventh by the 10-run rule when Evans slapped a two-run single to leftfield.

Evans led the way offensively for Bangor, reaching base all five times. The Husson University third baseman had two hits, reached on a hit by pitch and two walks, drove in three runs, and also scored three times. Hainer and Matt Seymour had two hits each, also each scoring twice and stealing one base a piece. Samuel Economy reached base three times on two walks and a hit by pitch, while scoring twice and recording two steals. Jonah Baude got the pitching win firing the first 6.0 innings allowing one run on six hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Jack Morris also pitched 1.0 inning for the Babes, who are now 15-1. Brody Walsh suffered the loss on the hill for Augusta going 2.0 innings giving up five runs (four earned) on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Vincent, Walsh, and Hunter Frost provided the offense for the Surgin’ Sturgeon (3-14) with a RBI each. Kyle Palleschi, Hayden Durrell, and Walsh each had two hits. Bangor finishes the regular season by playing a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon on the road at Old Orchard Beach at 2 and 4:30 p.m.
