The Bangor Babes, in its inaugural season of the Northeast Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), will be hosting a playoff game this Friday evening against the Augusta Surgin’ Sturgeon at Mahaney Diamond in Orono at 6 p.m.
Bangor, under the direction of head coach Trevor Delaite and general manager Colton Albertson, finished their first year of regular season play in the five team league at 14-4 earning a right to host the single elimination first round game on Friday against Augusta (4-16). The Babes played their home games at the Winkin Complex on the campus of Husson University, but due to the field now getting a makeover for the upcoming Eagles football season, the playoff contest was moved to another local stadium at UMaine. The Gorham Lightning (8-10) withdrew from postseason play, so the other first round playoff will be between the Old Orchard Beach Bugs (17-6) and the Sebago Slammin’ Salmon (6-12). Bangor went 4-1 against Augusta in the regular season.
The two winners on Friday will square off in a best of three league championship round beginning Sunday at Central Maine Community College in Auburn (12 p.m.), before the tournament moves to Goodall Park in Sanford on Tuesday (5 p.m.), and then Wednesday if necessary at the BallPark in Old Orchard Beach (4:30 p.m.) to close out the 2024 summer league season.
