The Boston Red Sox made their first deal before the trade deadline on Friday afternoon, as left handed pitcher James Paxton is returning to the club after a deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Paxton was 8-2 with a 4.43 earned run average in 89.1 innings with Los Angeles this season, before being DFA’d by the team on Monday. Boston will return minor league infielder Moises Bolivar to the Dodgers in the deal. The lefty pitched for the Red Sox in 2023 and went 7-5 with a 4.50 ERA in 96 innings, before signing with LA in January on a one-year contract worth $7 million.
Boston will pick up the remaining $1.4 million on the salary for Paxton. The Red Sox open a three game series with their rival the New York Yankees at Fenway Park Friday night at 7:10.
