The Sanford Mainers extended their win streak to 11 games on Monday night, beating the top team in the Northeast Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) the Vermont Mountaineers 6-3 in a rain shortened seven inning contest at Goodall Park in Sanford. Sanford will now prepare for their regular season finale on Tuesday night in a road game with Keene, before opening up postseason play later this week.
Blake Shaaf (Georgetown) broke a 3-3 tie with a game winning RBI single in the sixth inning for Sanford, followed by a two-run single for some insurance from Mateo Hernandez (Austin Peay). Dan McAliney (Binghamton) earned the victory in relief with 4.0 shutout frames on the mound. The 26th win for the Mainers (26-17) matches the highest for the team since 2016. The Vermont Mountaineers, who have already clinched the top spot for the NECBL postseason, fall to 30-10 on the season.
Sanford also clinched the #4 seed for the playoffs with their win Monday night, and will head to Keene, NH to face the Swamp Bats in that regular season finale on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
