The 1998-99 Maine men’s ice hockey national championship team, among others, will be inducted into this years UMaine Sports Hall of Fame ceremony/banquet being held at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer on Friday, October 4.
That 1998-99 men’s ice hockey defeated the University of New Hampshire 3-2 in overtime on a goal by Marcus Gustafsson in the national championship game on April 3, 1999 to capture the schools second title under head coach Shawn Walsh. This year is the 25th anniversary of that team.
Other honorees to be inducted into the UMaine Sports Hall of Fame that evening will be- Larry Thomas ’92 (baseball), Paul Kelly ’96 (men’s soccer), Kevin Reed ’07 (men’s basketball), Arel Gordon ’07 (football), Marie-Andree Canuel ’08 (women’s soccer), Allyson Howatt ’10, ’11 (Women’s Track and Field), and Sigi Koizar ’17 (women’s basketball).

The event runs from 4:30-8:30 p.m. The evening will begin with a social hour and hors d’oeuvres starting at 4:30 p.m., followed by a buffet meal at 6:30 p.m. and the official induction presentations of all the inductees.
