September 28, 2024

The Anna Maria College Amcats got nearly 300 yards passing and four touchdowns from quarterback Ryan Russell Saturday afternoon, in a 47-29 non-conference football win over Husson University on homecoming at Richard Caparso Field in Paxton, Massachusetts.

After Anna Maria scored about seven minutes into the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead, quarterback Max Clark was intercepted leading to another Amcats touchdown to double the advantage. Husson caught a break near the end of the period when they were forced to punt, and the ball took a bounce and hit an opposing player and the Eagles recovered deep in Anna Maria territory. The led to a 20-yard touchdown pass from Clark to Cam Holmes to cut it to 14-7. The hosts though rolled up the next 10 points unanswered to take a 17 point advantage, and Husson never got within 10 the rest of the way in falling to 2-2 on the season.

Clark went 18-39 passing for 244 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss for Husson. Jed Lober led the rushing attack with 74 yards on 13 carries with a touchdown, while Nason Berthelette had three receptions for 74 yards and a score. Jahmye Tyson had 12 total tackles to lead the defense. Russell went 19-30 passing for 284 yards and his four touchdowns in the win for Anna Maria College. Jamal Cariglia rushed 31 times for 85 yards and a TD, while Kevin Acosta Jr., Tyler Garretson, Davien Atkinson, and Tyler Bulinski had one touchdown reception each. The Amcats are now also 2-2. The Eagles now have a bye week before finishing up their non-conference schedule on the road on Saturday, October 12 with a 12 p.m. kickoff against Dean College.
