Several state of Maine soccer teams are headed out on the road this week to compete on the bigger stage of national tournaments, including the Maine Black Bears women’s team who are the back to back America East Champions after shutting out UNH 3-0 on Sunday in Orono in the title game.
Maine (13-1-3) will be heading to Madison, Wisconsin to battle the Wisconsin Badgers (9-5-4) out of the Big 10 Conference at 8 p.m. on Friday. The Black Bears carry a 12-game unbeaten streak into that matchup (11-0-1), and will look to win their first ever NCAA Tournament contest after falling in the first round last season 3-0 at Harvard. The only common opponent between the two teams is Rutgers with the Black Bears falling 3-0 (only loss of the season), and the Badgers suffering a 1-0 defeat to the Scarlet Knights.
In Division III- Husson women’s soccer returns to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009, as they travel to play the regional host and nationally ranked #18 New York University for a rematch of a game played earlier this season. The Eagles fell to NYU on the same field 6-1 back on September 7. The Eagles are on an eight game win streak.
Colby women’s soccer is at the MIT Regional to face Claremont-Mudd Scripps College, while the women’s team from the University of Southern Maine travels to their regional at The College of New Jersey to battle nationally ranked Johns Hopkins.
