After two ties to begin the season, the Penobscot Pioneers earned their first win on Wednesday evening with a 9-2 high school girls hockey triumph over Winslow/Gardiner/Cony co-op at the Penobscot Ice Arena in Brewer.
Ella Davis and Cayleigh Coleman each recorded a hat trick in the victory for the Pios (1-0-2). Davis also added an assist, while Izzy Brideau and Ashlyn Dearborn had two points a piece with one goal and one assist. Paige Oakes contributed one goal, and Jordin Williams, Bella Saucier, and Abbie Derosier also got on the scoresheet with one assist each. Derosier also made 21 saves in net during the win. It was the 50th high school goal for Oakes, who is just over 20 points away from reaching the 100 point plateau for her career. The Black Tigers of Winslow/Gardiner/Cony fall to 1-1 on the season.
Penobscot returns to action next Wednesday when they host unbeaten Brunswick (4-0) at the PIA in Brewer with puck drop set for 6:10 p.m.
