Zach Martin had three hits, including a solo homerun and a two-run shot, as the Maine baseball team beat Merrimack College 7-5 in a non-conference game in North Andover, Massachusetts on Wednesday afternoon.
Drew Reynolds also had three hits and an RBI while Myles Sargent, Damon Gaither, and Eric Wainwright added two hits a piece. Reynolds, Sargent, Wainwright, and Chris Bear knocked in the other Maine runs. Dylan Shaffer (2-2) picked up the win on the mound in relief of Jack Donlin. Donlin went the first 3.0 innings allowing one run on one hit with four walks and three strikeouts.
The Black Bears are now 8-19 overall, and will take their 3-3 America East record into their three game home conference openers vs UMass-Lowell at Mahaney Diamond in Orono this weekend. The first game of the series is a 3 p.m. first pitch on Friday afternoon.
