Husson baseball completes conference sweep of UMPI

The Husson Eagles finished off a four game North Atlantic Conference baseball sweep over the University of Maine-Presque Isle on Saturday taking both ends of a seven-inning doubleheader 8-0 and 8-4 at the Winkin Complex in Bangor.

In game one- The Eagles got all they needed when Hunter Curtis (Ellsworth) had a first inning RBI single. Colin Marshall had three hits. Curtis, Matt Holmes (Bangor), and Akira Warren (Hall-Dale) had two hits each. Warren, Curtis, and Marshall each drove in two runs. Marshall also tied a single game program record with four stolen bases. Matt Wallingford (Leavitt) improved his record to 2-1 by going 6.0 innings allowed no runs on one hit with no walks and 10 strikeouts. Tanner Audyatis worked a perfect seventh to preserve the one-hit shutout.

In game two- The Eagles scored twice in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to complete the weekend sweep. Justin Salvatore had the go ahead two-run double in the fifth to snap a 4-4 tie. Warren and Holmes had two more hits each, and Allen Wheaton (John Bapst) moved to 2-1 by earning the pitching victory in relief of Connor Abood by firing 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball. Warren swiped four bases in also tying Marshall for the single game program record. Garrett Chadwick had three hits and two RBI in the loss for UMPI, as the Owls fall to 4-10 and 1-7 in the NAC. Husson is now 12-9 on the season and 6-0 in the conference and is scheduled to play a non-conference game at Bowdoin College on Monday evening at 6 p.m.
