Maine baseball takes series opener at Albany

Evan Menzel had a game winning RBI double in the sixth inning on Friday afternoon, as Maine held on for a 3-2 win over Albany in America East baseball action at Varsity Field in Albany, New York.

Drew Reynolds had a sacrifice RBI popout and Dean O’Neill had an RBI single for the other Black Bear runs. Colin Fitzgerald (5-3) picked up the victory on the mound going 7.0 innings giving up two runs on seven hits with five walks and seven strikeouts. Sebastian Holt earned his seventh save of the season. Holt was in some possible trouble in the eighth inning when the Great Danes had runners on first and third with one out, and had the bases loaded with two outs but couldn’t score in either situation. Albany (10-18, 3-7 America East) also had the tying run at second with one out in the ninth, but Holt was able to close the door. Menzel and Brody Rasmussen had three hits each for Maine, as they improve to 11-20 and 6-4 in conference play. The Black Bears have now won six of their last eight games. The series continues on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
