The Husson softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader over Colby College on Monday afternoon 5-1 and 3-0 in Waterville. The doubleheader was moved from Bangor due to field conditions, with the Eagles still serving as the home team.
In game one, the Eagles scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the second inning to claim the victory. Lyndsee Reed (Hermon High) had the game winning two-run single. Bulla McCabe also had two hits and two RBI. Sky Johnson (6-3) pitched a complete game in the circle for Husson to get the win allowing one run (none earned) on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Juliana Kiley had two hits for the Colby College Mules, while Emma Burnham (Bonny Eagle) had a run driven in.
In game two, Ana Lang (Searsport) pitched a complete game four-hit shutout and Kiara McLeod (Oxford Hills) provided the only offense needed with an RBI sacrifice fly as the Eagles finished off the sweep. Camryn King (Nokomis) added two hits, and Morgan Tainter also had an RBI. Lang (3-3) gave up four hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Erika Macleod had two hits for Colby, as the Mules fall to 10-10 on the season.
Husson has now won six games in a row improving to 11-9, and will host Plymouth State University in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 3 p.m.
