Maine softball blanks Division III Colby College

The University of Maine softball team won for just the second time in their last 16 games on Thursday evening, blanking Division III Colby College 5-0 at the Pierre & Catherine Labat Softball Complex in Orono.

The Black Bears got all they needed in the first inning when Keira Inman lifted an RBI sacrifice flyout to rightfield. Francesca Guerrera added a two-run double and an RBI single, and Inman had another RBI sacrifice fly for the other Maine runs. Guerrera and Bailey Snowberger had two hits each. Alysen Reith (5-15) won in the circle twirling a complete game shutout allowing three hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Victoria Ram, Katelyn Hays, and Kelsey Sulli had the hits for the Colby College Mules who fall to 10-11 on the season.

The Black Bears are now 8-29 overall. They’ll take their 0-11 America East record into a three game conference series on the road this weekend at Albany. Since the start of 2019, Maine has an overall regular season mark of 62-204 (.304 win percentage), and in that same time period have gone 20-82 (.244 win percentage) in league play. Their last winning season was in 2016 (28-21, 12-5 America East) when they went to the NCAA Tournament. The Bears also finished 10-6 and 9-7 in the conference in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
