Jackson Curtis sets doubles mark, and helps to lead Husson baseball over Bates

Jackson Curtis continued his superb graduate season for the Husson baseball team at Leahy Field in Lewiston on Wednesday afternoon. Curtis homered twice and drove in four runs, as the Eagles defeated Bates College 11-3 in non-conference action. The former Ellsworth High School standout also broke the program record for doubles in a career with a two bagger in the third inning.

Curtis finished the day 3 for 6 with a pair of two-run homeruns, and also scored three times. The other hit was his double, the 49th of his career, passing Ethan Guerrette (2008-2011) who previously held the record at 48. Ryan Rametta also added a pair of hits, while Colin Marshall chipped in two RBI. Husson used seven pitchers, with freshman Noah Hurd (Mt. View) picking up his first career collegiate win (1-0) by firing 2.1 scoreless innings. Max Dushney had three hits for Bates College, and Ben Gesmondi hit a two-run homer. The Bobcats fall to 11-15 on the season.

Husson improves to 18-10. The Eagles will take their 10-0 North Atlantic Conference mark into a four game home and home league series vs Thomas College this weekend (weather permitting). The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader in Bangor on Saturday beginning at noon, and then two games in Waterville on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
