On Senior Day in Waterville, the Husson baseball team split a seven inning North Atlantic Conference doubleheader with Thomas College. The Terriers took game one 8-4, before the Eagles bounced back in a big way with a 22-8 victory in game two.
In game one- The Eagles had taken a 3-0 lead, but the Terriers put a five spot on the board in the bottom of the third inning en route to the win. Tony Meza cut it to 3-2 with a two-run single, and then two batters later DJ Cagnina (Marshwood) put Thomas up for good with a three-run homerun. Samuel Keblinsky (MDI) had three hits, while Meza, Cagnina, and Cam Haynes had two hits each. Meza had four RBI and Cagnina drove in three. Justin Conn (2-2) got the victory on the mound allowing three runs (just one earned) on four hits with six walks and three strikeouts in 3.1 innings. Tanner Evans (Old Town) had two hits for Husson, and Allen Wheaton (John Bapst) lost in relief to drop to 2-3 on the season. Cam Rendell and Jackson Curtis (Ellsworth) had one RBI a piece.
In game two- The Eagles exploded for nine runs in the third inning to break open a 2-2 tie, salvaging the split and remaining in first place in the conference. Hunter Curtis (Ellsworth) hit a two-run homerun in the inning, and Colin Marshall also crushed a three-run shot. Jackson Curtis added a three-run homer in the fourth. Evans had three hits and four RBI, while Marshall along with Hunter and Jackson Curtis had three RBI a piece in the win. Husson took advantage of 19 walks given up by Thomas. Avery Lawrence (Deering) started on the mound and got the victory to improve to 2-1 going 2.0 innings. Gavin Clark and Ben Seguin (Scarborough) had two RBI each for the Terriers, and Garrison Paillet (0-3) suffered the loss on the hill allowing six runs in 2.1 innings. Thomas is now 13-18 and 9-5 in the North Atlantic Conference.
Husson is 19-13 and 11-3 in conference play and will finish the regular season with four road games at UMaine-Farmington this weekend with doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday beginning at noon both days.
