Kyle Delano (Oak Hill) pitched a complete game shutout, and Hayden Durrell (Mt. Blue) provided a two-run single on Wednesday as Central Maine Community College defeated York County Community College 2-0 in a quarterfinal contest of the Yankee Small College Conference baseball playoffs at Old Orchard Beach.
The game winner by Durrell came in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ryan Stone (Westbrook) walked with one out, Lee Robertson grounded into a fielders choice for the second out, before Brandon Gour doubled to put runners on second and third. Durrell then hammered a hard groundball to centerfield for the two-run single. Delano pitched the entire 7.0 innings to get the victory allowing just two hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Gour had two hits. Danny Williams had both hits for YCCC (22-10). The Hawks will take on the University of Maine at Augusta in an elimination game on Thursday at 2 p.m. The #2 seeded Mustangs (24-13) will face top seed SMCC in the second round on Thursday at 4:30.
