For the first time in program history, the Husson women’s lacrosse team is headed to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The selection show was Monday morning, and the Eagles found out they’re headed to the Amherst College Regional and will face nationally ranked #13 William Smith College in the first round on Saturday.
Husson (7-7) earned the automatic bid by upsetting top seed Maine Maritime Academy 12-11 on Saturday night in the North Atlantic Conference Championship game in Castine. The Eagles scored the final five goals after trailing 11-7 in the fourth quarter. Their opponent William Smith College has a 12-4 record and went 9-0 in the regular season of the Liberty League, before falling 9-7 to Union College in their conference semifinals. The Herons got an at-large bid.
The start time for Saturday’s game is 1 p.m. The winner will play Sunday at 1 p.m. in the second round against the host and #11 ranked Amherst College Mammoths.
