Bowdoin crushes Rivier in the second round of the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament

On a rain soaked Whittier Field in Brunswick on Saturday afternoon, the #8 nationally ranked Bowdoin College men’s lacrosse team had seven players score multiple goals led by a seven goal performance from Patrick Fitzgerald in rolling to a 28-3 victory over Rivier University in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. Fitzgerald now has 72 goals and broke the single season program record.

The hosts built a 14-1 halftime lead, and also outscored the Raiders 14-2 in the last 30 minutes including a 10-goal fourth quarter to move into the third round. Bowdoin (14-3) had a 67-14 edge on shots attempted (49-10 shots on goal). Rivier got goals from Michael Ference, Parker Williams, and Chris Heitmiller in ending their season with a record of 17-2. The Polar Bears host Amherst College (11-5) in a third round game on Sunday beginning at 3 p.m.
