Husson softball rolls to seventh straight NAC Title

Julia Gregiore (Massabesic) had a game winning RBI hit in the first inning, and Ana Lang (Searsport) was dominant in the circle on Sunday afternoon as the top seeded Husson softball team captured their seventh straight North Atlantic Conference Championship with an 8-0 win over host SUNY Cobleskill in six innings in a game played at SUNY Oneonta.

The Eagles (27-10) with two outs in the bottom of the first inning and nobody on base got the only run that was needed. Bulla McCabe reached on an error by the centerfielder and advanced to third. Gregiore followed with an RBI single to right. Husson extended their advantage in the third on a McCabe RBI single, and Kiara McLeod smacked a two-run homerun in the fifth to make it 4-0. They would end it in the sixth by mercy rule by tagging on four more, highlighted by an RBI single from Lyndsee Reed (Hermon) and a two-run double to center by Camryn King (Nokomis). Lang got the win going 6.0 innings in the circle and improving to 8-4 on the season.

Gregiore and King had two hits a piece in the victory, while McLeod and King drove in two runs each. Lang gave up four hits while walking three and striking out 13, as her team will carry a nine game win streak into the NCAA Tournament with the selection show coming up on Monday. Madelynn Orosz (10-4) took the pitching loss for #2 SUNY Cobleskill allowing six runs on eight hits in 5.0 innings. The Fighting Tigers end their season with a record of 22-12-1.
