The Maine baseball team dropped their final conference game of the regular season on Sunday afternoon at Mahaney Diamond in Orono 6-2 to Binghamton.
Brody Rasmussen coming off a four RBI performance in a Black Bears win on Saturday night, had both runs driven in on Sunday with the second one tying it up 2-2 on sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. The Bearcats took over from that point, jumping on top for good in the seventh on an RBI triple by Zach Rogacki. The visitors added three in the top of the ninth on a two-run error and a single for an RBI by Evin Sullivan to end the scoring. Binghamton won the season series over Maine 4-2.
Evan Menzel and Dean O’Neill both had two hits in the loss for Maine. Gianni Gambardella (5-4) suffered the defeat on the mound allowing three runs on seven hits with four walks and six strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Rogacki had three hits for Binghamton, while Devan Bade had two. Conner Griffin (2-1) picked up the win in relief on the mound allowing one hit and no runs in 1.2 innings. The Bearcats are now 23-22 and 11-10 in America East. The Black Bears drop to 20-27 and 13-11 in conference play, losing back to back league series to Bryant and now Binghamton after winning five three game sets in a row. Maine wraps up the regular season next Thursday-Saturday with a road trip to take on the University of Connecticut out of the Big East in non-conference action.
